Here at BH we are starting our preparations for the V.E.Day celebrations next year. We shall be arranging a programme of events around the theme of ‘Bishopsteignton during WWII’ throughout the year, and especially during the week of 4th to 9th May 2020. We shall be working alongside other groups in the village to participate in some fun events, to include, food, music, exhibitions, film, talks and theatre.
We shall also be doing our own research into celebrating the Evacuees who came to the village and the men and women of the village who fought and defended us. For instance, this is a photo of the Bishopsteignton Home Guard. Many of you may have relatives who were in the Home Guard then. If so please let us know.
On Sat October 26th, from 2pm til 4pm, we shall be holding a Heritage Open Day at the Community Centre for anyone who would like to come along and talk to us about their ideas for V.E.Day and the celebration of 75 years since the end of WWII. If you have documents or photos, do bring them and show us. If you know who lived in your house during those war years, please let us know. Come along and join the fun of a chance to share ideas. Refreshments will be available. Anyone fancy a spam sandwich???
