2021 is the year that the latest British census will be completed. This article will explain just what the census is and it’s importance to the country, and encourage the younger generation to get involved and understand it.
On November 11th, 2018, the community of Bishopsteignton, Devon processed along the stunning Road of Remembrance , past the new memorial bench to St John’s Church to witness a moving commemoration service acknowledging the lives of all those who were lost in World War I. This service marked the culmination of four years of Bishopsteignton events and research marking the centenary of the Great War which are recorded here.
25 years ago Bishopsteignton found a welcoming twinning village in La Roche Maurice in Brittany.
During the Second World War France was occupied by German forces and Brittany was no exception. Close to the major port of Brest, La Roche Maurice, along with many French villages, has a very sad and difficult wartime history to relate.
Our twin village of La Roche Maurice in Brittany suffered during World War Two as did many in France. Their war memorial carries the names of 18 people who died tragically for France.
Eighty years ago the Royal Air Force had to defend the skies against the German Luftwaffe in an air battle termed “The Battle of Britain” by Winston Churchill.

May 8th 2020 is a very special day. Exactly 75 years ago, peace came to a troubled Europe and was celebrated. It is known as VE-Day or Victory in Europe Day.
The planned activities for the socially distanced village’s celebration of Victory in Europe Day. We will be adding video, images and further descriptions of the events once they have taken place.
We would especially like to record the village joining in with “We’ll Meet Again” at 5 o’clock, but would love to record any other history our village may be making on the day.
